Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

Deriving its name from the offshore rocks at Punta de los Lobos Marinos, Point of the Sea Wolves, where the sound of the sea lions carries inland, the Reserve has often been called "the crown jewel of the State Park System". Point Lobos has offered many things to millions of people who have visited it over the years.

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is outstanding for sightseeing, photography, painting, nature study, picnicking, SCUBA diving, and jogging. In addition to the spectacular beauty, nearly every aspect of its resources is of scientific interest. There are rare plant communities, endangered archeological sites, unique geological formations, and incredibly rich flora and fauna of both land and sea.

Gorgeous views everywhere and lots of wildlife to see. The highlight for us was the sea otters. We saw a couple pairs of mom and pup otters, and then later we got to witness otters smashing clams or oysters on a rock on their belly to break them open! We also saw a whale, sea lions (or maybe seals? they were far out), oystercatchers, a Great Egret, cormorants and pelicans.

Beautiful park with surprising variety of environments to adventure through. The coast is generally what most people come for, but the forest is dense and charming. There are also seals in quite a few areas, and if you come at the right time of year you can see whales from the coast (with binoculars).

Completely amazing place. Great trails, sights and facilities. Scrambling on the rocks is a blast. Take the waves seriously. They are huge and beautiful. My grands and I love this place. Don't miss the whale's cove as well as the dramatic ocean sides.
